Feeling Secure After Surgery: Choosing the Right Girdle for Your Recovery

For patients recovering from abdominal surgery, liposuction, a thigh lift, or related body contouring procedures, a well-fitted girdle can make the difference between a recovery that feels supported and one that feels like a constant adjustment. Medasun’s girdle collection is built around exactly that: high-waist designs, waistbands that actually stay in place, and enough leg-length options that there’s a proper fit for whichever procedure you’ve had.

Here’s how to think through the choice.

Why High-Waist, Stay-in-Place Design Matters

A girdle that slips, rolls, or needs constant readjustment isn’t just annoying — it means compression isn’t being applied consistently, which undermines the whole point of wearing it. The high-waist construction across this collection is designed to:

  • Provide medical-grade compression (typically in the 17–23mmHg therapeutic range)
  • Stay securely in place through normal daily movement
  • Reduce pain and swelling with a 3D stretch fabric that moves with the body
  • Support tissue evenly across the abdomen and lower body without digging in

Every style is FDA approved, antimicrobial, and latex-free, made from a soft LYCRA® and Tactel Nylon blend that’s breathable enough for genuine round-the-clock wear.

Choosing Your Leg Length

The collection covers three leg lengths, and choosing the right one comes down to which procedure you’ve had and how far the treated area extends:

Bikini length (LGA / LGA2) covers the abdomen and hips with a brief-style cut, well suited to lower-abdominal procedures such as a tummy tuck or liposuction of the abdomen and flanks, where compression below the hip isn’t needed.

Short length (LGS / LGS2) extends coverage slightly further down the thigh, useful where swelling or treatment extends a little beyond the hip without requiring full leg coverage.

Ankle length (LGL / LGL2) provides full-length compression from the abdomen down to the ankle, designed for procedures affecting the thighs and lower legs, or combined body contouring where consistent pressure needs to extend the whole way down.

Zip or Zipperless — Which Stage Are You At?

Within each leg length, you’ll find both a zip-closure version and a zipperless version, matched to different points in recovery:

Zip-closure styles (LGA, LGS, LGL) are the Step 1 option, worn in the first one to four weeks after surgery. A zipper on the side with a protective lining makes the garment easy to put on and adjust when movement is still limited, and each includes an open crotch with a hook-and-eye flap for practicality.

Zipperless styles (LGA2, LGS2, LGL2) suit later-stage recovery, once swelling has settled and mobility has improved. With a soft elastic waistband instead of a zip, these are simpler to get in and out of day to day while still delivering the same targeted compression.

What to Expect From the Fabric

Every girdle in the collection is built from the same TriFlex™ fabric that underpins Medasun’s wider range — patented 3D stretch construction that keeps compression consistent through movement, stays cool and breathable, and is designed to be worn 24/7, including overnight, without the discomfort that comes from lower-quality fabric.

Getting the Right Fit

Because these garments apply therapeutic compression, sizing needs to be accurate: too tight risks restricting circulation, too loose won’t provide the support your recovery needs. Use a proper sizing guide, or get in touch with our team, particularly if you’re unsure which leg length or stage suits your specific procedure.
