Not every recovery is contained to the abdomen. Procedures affecting the hips, thighs, or lower legs — or combined procedures spanning the lower body — often need compression that extends well beyond a standard waist-length girdle. That’s where full-length, ankle-reaching garments come in.
Here’s what full-length compression support is designed for, and how to choose between the styles available.

Why Full-Length Coverage Matters
A garment that stops at the hip or upper thigh leaves a gap in support exactly where swelling and fluid can settle lower down the leg. Extending compression from the abdomen all the way to the ankle keeps pressure even and continuous across the whole treated area, which helps to:
- Reduce swelling and fluid buildup along the full length of the leg, not just the upper body
- Improve circulation through the lower limbs during recovery
- Support smoother, more even skin retraction
- Provide consistent comfort for procedures where the abdomen, hips, and legs are all involved
This kind of coverage is particularly relevant after combined body contouring procedures, and it’s also a key feature of garments designed specifically for lipoedema reduction surgery, where swelling in the legs is a central part of recovery.

Two Stages, Two Closure Styles
Full-length girdles typically come in two versions, matched to different points in your recovery:
Zip-closure styles (LGL) are designed for earlier-stage recovery, when ease of application matters most. Padded zippers on both sides, with underlying snaps, make the garment straightforward to put on and adjust without unnecessary strain — important in the days when movement is still limited.
Zipperless styles (LGL2) are designed for later-stage, or “second stage,” recovery. With a soft elastic waistband and no zip, these are simpler to pull on and off as your comfort and mobility improve, while still providing the same ankle-length, clean-cut compression coverage.
Both styles include an accessible crotch opening for practicality during extended wear.

Built for Comfort at the Ankle
One detail worth knowing about: garments designed with a comfort-focused ankle finish (sometimes marketed as a “Comfort Ankle” design) avoid the tight, constricting band that some full-length garments create right at the ankle. This is a small design detail, but it makes a real difference over weeks of continuous wear — particularly for lipoedema patients, where the lower leg is often the most sensitive area.
What to Look for in the Fabric
As with any garment worn for extended periods, fabric performance matters as much as garment length. Full-length styles from Medasun use Marena’s TriFlex™ fabric, which offers:
- Superior stretch that moves with the body rather than restricting it
- Consistent, targeted compression along the full length of the garment
- Antimicrobial protection that holds up through repeated washing
- Moisture-wicking properties to keep the garment comfortable through 24/7 wear

Getting the Right Fit
Full-length garments cover more of the body than a standard girdle, which makes accurate measurement even more important — a garment that’s correctly sized at the waist but too tight through the thigh or calf can create uneven pressure. Use a proper sizing guide, or speak to our team, especially if you’re choosing between Missy and Women’s sizing for lipoedema-specific styles.
