Liposuction reshapes the body, but it’s the recovery period that determines how smoothly your results settle in. Compression garments play a central role in that process — and choosing the right one, at the right stage, makes a real difference to comfort and healing.
Here’s what to know about compression after liposuction, and how to choose a garment that actually supports your recovery.

Why Compression Matters After Liposuction
Liposuction disrupts tissue and creates space beneath the skin where fluid can collect. A well-fitted compression garment applies even, targeted pressure that helps to:
- Reduce swelling and post-operative pain
- Control moisture and reduce infection risk at the treatment site
- Help skin retract smoothly against the new contour
- Support comfortable movement while you get back to daily life
- Allow comfortable sleep, since a good garment can be worn 24/7
Because liposuction is often performed across multiple areas — abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms — the garment needs to give consistent support across each treated zone without restricting movement anywhere else.

Step 1 vs. Step 2 Garments
Recovery after liposuction typically happens in two stages, and the right garment changes as you move through them.
Step 1 garments are worn immediately after surgery, while swelling is at its highest. These are designed to be easy to put on during the early, more sensitive days, with hook-and-eye or zip closures for an adjustable fit, and open or accessible styles that make daily care straightforward.
Step 2 garments typically come into play around four weeks post-op, once initial swelling has settled. These are built to be worn discreetly under everyday clothes, staying soft and stretching through a full range of movement as you return to normal activity — while still providing the compression support your results need.
Which garment, and which stage, suits you best depends on your specific procedure and areas treated, so it’s always worth checking with your surgeon or a compression specialist before choosing.
Bodysuits vs. Vests
Liposuction garments generally come in two main styles:
Bodysuits offer full-body coverage and are well suited to procedures spanning multiple areas — abdomen, waist, and hips together, for example — giving consistent, coordinated compression across the whole treated region.
Vests focus support on the torso and are often preferred for more localised procedures, offering targeted compression without the coverage of a full bodysuit.
If you’re not sure which is right for your procedure, your medical professional’s recommendation should guide the choice — the wrong style can leave gaps in support or add unnecessary bulk.

What to Look for in the Fabric
Since a liposuction garment may be worn nearly continuously for weeks, fabric quality is just as important as the fit:
Power stretch. Fabric that moves with you through a full range of motion, rather than restricting it, makes extended wear far more manageable.
Antimicrobial and hypoallergenic properties. With a garment worn against healing skin for hours at a time, fabric that resists bacteria and won’t irritate is essential.
Softness. Seams sewn on the outside and a soft fabric construction help prevent rubbing and irritation during long wear.
Moisture control. Wicking moisture away from the skin helps reduce the risk of irritation or infection during healing.
Medasun’s liposuction range is made from Marena’s TriFlex™ fabric, engineered specifically around these properties — designed for comfortable, therapeutic compression through both stages of recovery.
Getting the Right Fit
Accurate measurements make the biggest difference to comfort and results. A garment that’s too tight can restrict circulation; too loose, and it won’t deliver the compression your recovery needs. Use a proper sizing guide, or get in touch with our team, before you order — especially if you’re moving between Step 1 and Step 2 garments, since sizing needs can shift as swelling reduces.
Many patients find it worth buying two of the same garment for the early stages, so you can wear one and wash one without a gap in compression.
