Post-Procedure Support for Women’s Upper Body and Arms

Recovery support for the abdomen and lower body gets most of the attention, but plenty of procedures affect the upper body instead — arm liposuction, back liposuction, breast surgery, and combined upper-body contouring all need their own approach to compression. Vests and sleeved garments are designed specifically for this part of the body, and choosing the right one matters just as much here as anywhere else.

Why Upper Body Compression Matters

The upper back, arms, and torso move constantly through everyday activity, which makes consistent compression trickier to maintain than in more static areas like the abdomen. A well-designed vest or sleeved garment needs to:

  • Reduce bruising and swelling across the back, torso, and arms
  • Stay in place through natural movement, without riding up or shifting
  • Support the treated area without restricting arm mobility
  • Remain comfortable enough for genuine all-day, and overnight, wear

Because procedures vary so much in this area — a small amount of arm liposuction is very different from combined back and torso work following breast surgery — coverage needs differ considerably from patient to patient.

Choosing Between Vest Styles

Upper body compression garments generally fall into a few categories, depending on how much arm and torso coverage is needed:

Sleeveless vests offer full torso and back coverage without restricting arm movement at all — a good option where the procedure is focused on the torso rather than the arms themselves.

Medium-sleeve vests extend coverage down the upper arm, commonly used following arm and upper back liposuction, lipoplasty, or alongside breast procedures like mastopexy, augmentation, or reduction mammoplasty, where consistent support across the chest, back, and arms works better as one coordinated garment.

3/4-length sleeve vests offer extended torso support with full back and abdominal coverage, designed to minimise bruising and swelling across a wider treated area.

Full torso garments with reinforced panels and sleeves combine bodysuit-level coverage with medium-length sleeves, suited to more extensive combined procedures.

Which style suits you depends on exactly which areas were treated — your surgeon’s recommendation is the best starting point, since the wrong coverage can leave gaps in support in exactly the areas that need it most.

Practical Design Features to Look For

Beyond coverage area, a few design details make a real difference to day-to-day comfort:

Secure closures. Look for adjustable shoulder straps (VELCRO® or hook-and-eye) and front closures that let you fine-tune the fit as swelling changes through recovery.

A band that stays put. A wide elastic band at the hem helps stop the garment rolling up during normal movement — a small detail, but one that matters a great deal over weeks of wear.

Correct cup and torso sizing. For garments incorporating chest coverage, check the cup size range carefully — most vest styles are designed for specific ranges (commonly up to a C cup), so it’s worth confirming fit before ordering rather than assuming a standard size will work.

The Fabric Still Matters

As with any compression garment worn for extended periods, Medasun’s vests and sleeved garments are made from Marena’s TriFlex™ fabric — chosen for its stretch, targeted compression, antimicrobial protection, and moisture-wicking properties, so the garment stays comfortable through genuine 24/7 wear rather than becoming something you’re tempted to take off early.

Getting the Right Fit

Upper body garments cover more variable anatomy than a straightforward girdle, so accurate measurements across the bust, torso, and arm all matter. Use a proper sizing guide, or get in touch with our team, to make sure you’re ordering the right style and size for your specific procedure.
